June is here, and even though it isn’t officially summer yet, June means “summer” to most people. The June gloom at least gives you an opportunity to have maintenance done on your air conditioning system if you haven’t done it yet. We recommend all homeowners schedule this inspection and tune-up for their AC during the early spring. But it’s still not too late to have it done. Believe us, it’s much better to have it done a bit later in the spring than to miss having it altogether.

• The AC Is at Higher Risk of a Breakdown – The strain placed on an air conditioner during the hottest days of summer can be enough to cause the system to overheat and stop working. This usually means an emergency repair call. Pre-season maintenance reduces the chance of this happening, much the same way maintaining a vehicle reduces the chance of a roadside breakdown during a long trip.
• The AC Will Cost More to Run – An air conditioner accumulates dust and wear as it runs. Maintenance relieves this with cleaning, lubrication, and small fix-ups. Without this regular professional attention, the AC will work harder to operate over the summer, and you’ll see a difference—an unpleasant one—in your bills.
• It Might Void the Warranty – The manufacturer’s warranty usually stipulates the air conditioning system must receive annual professional maintenance to keep the warranty intact. A voided warranty removes your protection against a faulty system.
• The AC Will Have a Shorter Service Life – This is the “long game” of maintenance, and possibly the biggest way it saves you money. If an air conditioner misses maintenance, the extra stress it experiences over the season will cut down on its service life. You may end up replacing the system one, two, three, maybe even five years before its manufacturer’s estimated lifespan. That’s a large expenditure that you can easily avoid.
